Our story
Zecuties started from a simple pairing: ZEC, a coin built around the idea that privacy is a right, and cuties — small, warm, generative characters that anyone can fall for at a glance. We wanted a collection that felt fun first, but that couldn't exist without Zcash's shielded pool underneath it.
Why Zcash, specifically?
Zcash doesn't have general-purpose smart contracts, which means there's no familiar ERC-721-style token standard to lean on. Rather than fake that on another chain, we built around what Zcash actually offers: strong shielded transactions and memos. A Zecutie is tied to ownership through a verified shielded payment, tracked in an open, independently checkable registry — not a marketing claim, an actual design constraint the whole system is built around.
That also means we're not waiting on any future protocol upgrade to exist. If and when Zcash Shielded Assets (ZSA) ships on mainnet, we've left room to move the collection onto native asset support — but nothing about owning a Zecutie today depends on that happening.
Who's building this
A small team of Zcash community members and artists. We're building in the open: the registry format (ZMD-1) and its indexer are designed from day one to be open-sourced independently of the rest of this site, so ownership can always be verified without trusting us specifically.
